Job summary

Montclair State University’s NJ PBS unit is seeking a Reporter for Trenton/Central New Jersey to cover the state legislature, governor’s office, and policy developments. The role requires strong political reporting for broadcast, streaming, and digital platforms.

You'll produce daily coverage, report from the statehouse, and contribute to political analysis while building sources across counties in Central New Jersey. A bachelor’s degree and three years in video reporting are required.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, broadcasting, or related field.
Minimum of three years of video-based reporting experience with field reporting and producing clips/packages.
Knowledge of New Jersey state legislative and executive processes.
Ability to shoot and edit video content for broadcast and digital delivery.

Responsibilities

Cover the New Jersey Legislature, Governor’s office, and state agencies daily.
Develop political and policy enterprise stories with depth and context.
File content for daily newscasts and digital platforms on deadline.
Participate in editorial meetings and contribute to story selection and news judgment.
May substitute anchor on news programs when needed.
