Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) seeks a Director of External Affairs, a State Office Administrator 17. The incumbent will guide the Communications Office and the Office of Market Research while shaping legislative strategy and activities to advance housing policy.

The role requires strong strategic thinking, relationship-building, and leadership. A remote/hybrid schedule may be possible based on performance, but duties are performed in Michigan.

• Completion of high school or equivalent and two years of supervisory or advanced-level safety and regulatory or law enforcement role.
• OR a bachelor’s degree in any major and at least two years of experience as a professional manager or program/staff specialist, or equivalent experience.

MSHDA seeks a Director of External Affairs, a State Office Administrator 17. The incumbent is responsible for providing direction and support to the Communications Office and the Office of Market Research, and for the Authority’s legislative strategy and activities. The incumbent is charged with developing and sustaining effective working relationships with local, state, and federal elected officials, media professionals, and stakeholders in the housing ecosystem.

Competitive candidates for this position will possess strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, strong leadership and relationship-building characteristics and possess a thorough understanding and knowledge of legislative policy.

There is a possibility of a remote/hybrid schedule based on performance and operational need. However, all work must be performed in Michigan. If you currently reside outside of Michigan, you must relocate to Michigan to perform the duties of this position.
