Qualifications

  • 4 year degree required; license eligibility for CPA or equivalent encouraged.
  • Public accounting or industry experience in multi-state income/franchise tax preferred.
  • Strong time management, communication, analytical thinking and client service skills.
  • Ability to mentor staff and collaborate across teams; proficiency with MS Office.

Responsibilities

  • Assist clients with state income/franchise, sales taxes, nexus, and filing positions.
  • Conduct technical research on complex state tax laws and regulations.
  • Analyze client data to identify filing obligations and tax exposures.
  • Support state tax audits, notices and controversy matters.
  • Develop expertise in state tax and communicate insights to clients and teams.
  • Manage multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment and ensure quality.

What You Will Do
  • Assist clients with tax consulting issues, including state income/franchise, sales taxes, mergers and acquisitions, nexus considerations, and filing positions.
  • Conduct technical research on complex state tax laws and regulations, including changes in legislation and case law.
  • Analyze client data to identify filing obligations, potential tax exposures, and planning opportunities.
  • Support clients in state tax audits, notices, and controversy matters.
  • Maintain strong internal relationships across service lines and engagement teams.
  • Develop technical expertise in state tax and communicate insights to clients and internal teams.
  • Manage multiple client projects simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment, ensuring accuracy and quality.
  • Participate in mentoring, coaching, and learning initiatives to support your ongoing development.
  • Contribute to business development and relationship-building efforts internally and externally.

Minimum Qualifications
  • 4 year degree, license eligible
  • 1 year of professional experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, business, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in public accounting or industry with a focus on multi-state income and franchise tax compliance and consulting required.
  • Strong skills in time management, communication, analytical thinking, and client service.
  • Ability to manage complex projects, mentor junior staff, and collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Possessing or actively working on a credential that may include member of the Bar, CPA, enrolled agent, or IPT certification.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; experience with tax compliance software a plus.

The pay rate ranges for this position are listed below. Actual compensation is influenced by a variety of relevant factors including but not limited to applicant’s skills, prior experience, qualifications, degrees, professional certifications, work arrangements and geographic location. Baker Tilly offers a comprehensive compensation and benefits package to eligible employees.

In Dallas & Frisco, TX: pay rate range is $87,980 to $131,970

In Houston, TX: pay rate range is $100,550 to $150,840
