The State of Indiana invites applications for the State Eligibility Consultant role within the Division of Family Resources. You will process SNAP, Medicaid and TANF cases, review eligibility determinations, and ensure compliance with applicable policies.

The position emphasizes accuracy, reporting, and peer coaching to improve program outcomes. The salary historically starts at $37,648.00, with potential adjustments based on education and experience.

About the Family & Social Services Administration (FSSA):

The Division of Family Resources (DFR) within the Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) is responsible for establishing eligibility for Medicaid, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families benefits. The division also manages the timely and accurate delivery of SNAP and TANF benefits. DFR also provides employment and training services to some SNAP and TANF recipients. The division’s overarching focus is the support and preservation of families by emphasizing self-sufficiency and personal responsibility.

Role Overview:

This State Eligibility Consultant (SEC) position plays a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of benefits for DFR programs. The SEC is responsible for processing and reviewing tasks, applications, changes, and redeterminations for SNAP, Medicaid and TANF benefits to ensure they adhere to all applicable policies and regulations. The SEC will make necessary corrections, update case information, and authorize benefits. The SEC will offer valuable feedback for peer coaching and reporting purposes, contributing to the overall improvement of the DFR accuracy review process.

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $37,648.00 but may be commensurate with education and work experience. Use our Compensation Calculator to view the total compensation package.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Review all eligibility recommendations and information provided by contract staff.
  • Make an eligibility determination for appropriate benefits and waiver programs in compliance with state and federal rules, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Examine data matches to find inconsistent and unreported data.
  • Approve claims referred and calculated by the Contractor.
  • Conduct full eligibility interviews for SNAP, TANF and Medicaid applicants.
  • Keep current on all changes in rules, regulations, and guidelines regarding the individual benefit programs.
