Job summary

AARP is seeking a senior leader to guide the Community, State and National Affairs portfolio in Florida. The role directs strategy, advocacy, communications, and engagement across a dispersed team of staff and volunteers to advance health security, financial security, and member impact.

Hybrid work arrangement with remote days in the US, travel up to 50%, and a strong focus on building partnerships with officials, nonprofits, and local communities.

Qualifications

• BA degree and a minimum of 8 years of progressive people management experience.
• Experience managing a geographically dispersed team of staff and volunteers preferred.
• Ability to manage advocacy, outreach, communications, and budget functions while unifying a team around priorities.
• Proven expertise in budgeting, forecasting, and aligning resources with strategic plans.
• Systems-driven strategist with strong volunteer engagement experience.

Responsibilities

• Develops a state-specific strategic vision and mobilizes the state office team.
• Directs advocacy strategies at local, state, and federal levels and manages relationships with officials.
• Directs communications strategies within the state to raise visibility with members and lawmakers.
• Directs engagement strategies and builds community partnerships to achieve objectives.
• Manages the state office budget and organizational risk to meet benchmarks.
• Leads volunteer teams and collaborates with state leadership to recruit and recognize volunteers.
