Job summary

The Office of the Attorney General/Department of Law of Colorado is seeking attorneys to represent the State and its employees in complex civil-rights matters. The role emphasizes independent case management, strong legal writing, and collaboration within a supportive team.

Salary is set under the department's attorney compensation model, with AAG I and AAG II levels and respective ranges. Flexible work arrangements may be available; strong writers and litigators are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

  • Strong legal research, analytical, and writing skills demonstrated through litigation experience.
  • Experience with 42 U.S.C. § 1983 cases, CRCP 106, Constitutional law, administrative law, and federal/state appeals preferred.
  • Three or more years of legal experience; willingness to consider multiple experience levels.

Responsibilities

  • Litigate federal civil rights claims primarily against law enforcement personnel for the Parole Division and Colorado Department of Corrections.
  • Write substantive briefs, conduct discovery, argue motions, and prepare matters for trial and appeal.
  • Provide general legal advice to client agencies on policy issues and subpoenas/open records requests.
