Job summary

Broetje Automation-USA is seeking a Startup Engineer in Wichita, KS to support new equipment introductions with electrical and controls expertise. You’ll work as a subject matter expert on Siemens PLCs, HMIs, and motion systems, integrating sensors and electromechanical components across projects.

The role requires hands-on automation experience, strong problem-solving, and a willingness to travel up to 30% to customer sites, with overtime and weekend shifts possible.

Responsibilities

• Provide electrical and controls engineering expertise for new equipment and systems.
• Serve as internal SME for Siemens PLC, HMI, motion, and electromechanical devices.
• Apply electronics, mechanics, pneumatics, hydraulics, and programming knowledge.
• Travel to customer sites for commissioning and troubleshooting.
• Maintain logs and records of duties performed.

Compensation/Benefits:

• Competitive hourly wage, ranges $34.00 – 43.00/hour, plus overtime

Required Education:

• BS in Electrical or Electro-Mechanical Engineering preferred, technical certificate in mechatronics, or comparable experience with industrial robotics or machine tools
• Hands-on Industrial automation industry or equivalent experience

Desirable Experience:

• Industrial automation industry or equivalent experience
• Siemens Step 7 PLC troubleshooting experience
• Siemens TIA Portal; Sinumerik One
• CNC troubleshooting experience
• Experience in IEC61131 (PLC programming languages)
• Ability to analyze and diagnose automation problems

Qualifications:

• Strong fundamental understanding of electrical design practices, machine/motion control systems, electro-mechanical systems, robotics, programming, and system integration
• Understanding of PLC programming languages
• Experienced in troubleshooting electrical control panels
• CNC troubleshooting experience
• Knowledge of NC Controllers: Siemens 840D or WINCC
• Experience using precision measurement equipment (i.e. Dial indicators, calipers, etc.)
• Strong communication skills & ability to interact with teams, clients, and vendors
• Willing to travel to customer sites (30% travel expected)
• Experience with aerial platforms and working at heights
• Ability to lift and move materials or equipment weighing up to approximately 40 lbs
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and repetitively climb stairs within a manufacturing environment
• Open to working overtime and weekend shifts

Job Responsibilities:
