Overview

The Starter/Ranger plays a key role in ensuring a smooth, enjoyable, and efficient golf experience for all members and guests. This team member serves as the on-course ambassador for Pelican Sound Golf & River Club-promoting pace of play, upholding course etiquette, and maintaining communication between the Golf Shop and players throughout the day.

Experience Required

Previous experience in golf operations or a strong background in the game of golf is preferred. Candidates are expected to demonstrate solid golf knowledge and core competency in golf etiquette and operations.

Essential Responsibilities

Starter Duties

  • Manage and organize the flow of players on the first tee to ensure timely starts.
  • Greet members and guests in a friendly, professional manner while confirming tee times.
  • Communicate daily course rotations, pace-of-play expectations, and any special course conditions.
  • Provide local knowledge such as restroom locations, cart-path-only restrictions, and pace reminders.
  • Coordinate with Rangers and the Golf Shop to address any delays, weather concerns, or on-course issues.

Ranger Duties

  • Monitor the golf course to maintain the established pace of play standard (4 hours and 2 minutes for 18 holes).
  • Apply the "CORRECT" Rangering Method: Check, Observe, Review, React, Encourage, Chase, Thank - ensuring communication is consistent, respectful, and effective.
  • Assist players encountering slow play, course confusion, or rules questions with professionalism and empathy.
  • Observe course conditions and report issues such as cart damage, maintenance needs, or unsafe player behavior.
  • Support a positive playing environment by diffusing conflicts calmly and enforcing golf etiquette standards.
  • Serve as a visible presence throughout the course to promote player awareness and proactive pacing.
