Job summary

Integrated Services for Behavioral Health in Pike County, OH seeks a START Family Peer Supporter to join our team. This role requires either a certified peer supporter or someone in long-term recovery from substance use with mental health challenges who can work toward certification.

You will collaborate with Ohio START case workers to deliver wrap-around services for families, help connect them to resources, support empowerment and self-advocacy, and navigate the child welfare system.

Qualifications

• Minimum education: GED.
• Lived experience with child welfare as a parent or child.
• Minimum 3 years of quality recovery from Substance Use Disorder.
• Familiarity with community health & human service systems.
• Effective verbal and written communication.

Responsibilities

• Participates as an active member of the Ohio START team.
• Works with the Ohio START case worker and provider to ensure seamless wrap-around services for START families on the caseload and assist with child safety.
• Participates in initial meetings, weekly status meetings, and Family Team Meetings to review progress.
• Explore family needs to empower long-term success and child safety; support parental independence.
• Connects families to community resources and teaches navigation of the child welfare system.
• Assists families in identifying and accessing natural support systems; promotes coordination among local providers.
• Coordinates or assists in crisis interventions and stabilization of families.
• Supports development of empowerment and self-advocacy.

Integrated Services for Behavioral Health (ISBH) is a community-minded, forward-thinking behavioral health organization helping people along the road to health and well-being. We meet people in their homes and communities and help connect them to the resources they need. We serve Southeast and Central Ohio with a comprehensive array of behavioral health and other services – working with local partners to promote healthy people and strong communities. All of our services are intended to be collaborative and personalized for the individual.

We are looking for a certified peer supporter or an individual who is in long-term recovery from a substance use disorder or substance use with mental health, who is eligible to work toward becoming a certified peer supporter. Experience working with resources in Pike County preferred.

Essential Functions:

• Participates as an active member of the Ohio START team.
• Works jointly with the Ohio START case worker and behavioral health provider to ensure seamless and efficient delivery of intensive wrap-around services to the START families on the caseload and to assist with the safety of the child(ren).
• Participates in initial meetings, weekly status meetings, and Family Team Meetings to review families' progress.
• Providing continual exploration of family’s needs to empower the family to take ownership over their long-term successes and the safety of the child(ren);
• Supporting the parent(s) in achieving personal independence;
• Connecting START families to community resources;
• Teaching families skills to effectively navigate the child welfare system;
• Assisting families with identifying and accessing natural support systems in the community;
• Promoting coordination and linkage among providers within local community
• Coordinating or providing assistance in crisis interventions and stabilization of families
• Assisting families to develop empowerment skills through promoting self-advocacy
• Identify barriers (internal and external) to full participation in community resources and developing strategies to overcome those barriers
• Providing input on court forms, as needed;
• Providing input on development of the case plan and child safety; and
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

• Have earned a minimum education level of GED.
• Lived experience with child welfare servicers as a parent or child.
• Minimum 3 years quality recovery from Substance Use Disorder.
• Familiarity of community health & human service systems.
• Able to effectively communicate through verbal/written expression.
• Can effectively operate in an Internet-based, electronic health record (EHR) and other data environments.
• Demonstrate long term recovery (at least 2 years is required, three years is preferred) from a SUD.
• Demonstrate no ongoing criminal activity.
• Have lived experience with the child welfare system either as a parent or child, with the case closed at least one year or if do not have direct CPS experience, be able to describe how your substance use affected your children and family.
• Maintain a current driver’s license.
