Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) invites applicants to become Standardized Patients who accurately portray medical scenarios for student learning. SPs follow scripted cases, maintain consistent performance, and may provide feedback during simulated exams.

Duties include memorizing case scripts, interacting with students, participating in examinations on camera, preserving confidentiality, and being flexible with scheduling.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of three online training modules is required prior to working with students.
• Must sign a confidentiality agreement.
• Ability to portray a person other than himself/herself and convincingly maintain a specified character as trained.
• Willingness to work flexible hours on a scheduled and on‑call basis.

Responsibilities

• Memorizes/learns a case script portraying a specific health concern or situation along with the emotions, behaviors, and disease signs and symptoms.
• Interacts with medical students in a standardized manner during simulated interactive patient history and/or medical examinations.
• Permits interviews and physical examinations, with or without a hospital gown where appropriate, on camera and observed live or recorded.
• Accurately remembers encounters with students for the purpose of rating student behaviors.
• Maintains confidentiality of information related to cases, student behaviors, evaluation, and personal information regarding other SPs.
