Job summary

Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, MI, is seeking a senior Die Design Leader to drive robust, manufacturable casting die designs across the product development lifecycle. You will coordinate with product development and manufacturing, lead die construction and vendor collaboration, and ensure quality that meets Ford standards.

You will manage multiple die designs in a hybrid setting, mentor teams on Catia V5, Teamcenter and SMIRT, and apply 10+ years of die design expertise to advance manufacturing

Qualifications

  • Die design experience (10+ years) or proven leadership.
  • Extensive knowledge of stamping die standards and die design deliverables.
  • Extensive knowledge Ford WDX die standards and Ford die design deliverables.
  • Advanced knowledge of die construction and machining practices.
  • Understanding of die materials and heat treatment processes.
  • Knowledgeable in Teamcenter.
  • Knowledge of SMIRT and SMIRT deliverables for Construction Source.
  • Expert in Catia V5 assemblies and parametrizations.
  • Understanding of Microsoft 365 and OneDrive.
  • Self-starter with ability to manage multiple items and prioritize by dates.
  • Reverse engineer solutions to die design concerns.

Responsibilities

  • Drive Voice of Manufacturing across product development to ensure feasible casting designs.
  • Coordinate between product development and manufacturing to resolve manufacturability concerns.
  • Lead development and evaluation of prototype and production casting processes with suppliers.
  • Review and approve Die Designs to meet WDX standards and press requirements.
  • Lead Die Design Vendor at start of new die set and support design changes.
  • Collaborate with Die Vendor and Die Process/Automation teams for robust solutions.
  • Incorporate lessons learned from previous launches.
  • Drive for best-in-class die standards with vendors and Construction Source.
  • Lead Virtual Pattern Reviews and provide direction.
  • Manage multiple die designs to meet standards and timing.
  • Organize and lead plant die design reviews for new dies.

In this position...
  • You will drive “Voice of Manufacturing” throughout product development lifecycle to ensure robust, feasible, and manufacturable casting assembly designs.
  • Conduct early casting process feasibility evaluation in an integrated CAD/CAE environment and coordinate between product development and manufacturing teams to lead resolution of manufacturing feasibility concerns.
  • Participate in the development and evaluation of prototype and production manufacturing cast processes with suppliers.
What Else You’ll Do...
  • Reviewing and approving Die Designs to ensure they meet WDX standards, die safety requirements, WDX materials/standard components, automation clearances and press requirements.
  • Manage/Lead Die Design Vendor at start of new die set, updating designs for engineering/process changes and supporting die construction and production plant requirements.
  • Work with Die Vendor and Die Process/Automation teams to collaborate on a solution that will work for all parties and give most robust solution for Ford Motor Co.
  • Feedback and incorporate Lessons Learned from previous launch captured issues.
  • Provide feedback and drive for best in class die standards to help develop/improve our Die Vendors and Construction Source success.
  • Lead and guide Virtual Pattern Reviews and give direction accordingly.
  • Manage multiple die designs to help Die Vendors meet our standards and meet their aggressive timing.
  • Organize and lead plant die design reviews for all new dies with appropriate stamping plants.
  • Work with construction sources to eliminate or improve die construction issues up-front or when reviewing/approving.

  • Advanced knowledge of die construction and machining practices
  • Understanding of die materials and treatment processes per application
  • Knowledgeable in Teamcenter
  • Knowledge of SMIRT and SMIRT deliverables for Construction Source
  • Expert in Catia V5 assemblies and parametrizations
  • Understanding of Microsoft 365 and OneDrive
  • Self-starter with abilities to manage multiple items and prioritize accordingly based on promise dates and urgency
  • Reverse engineer solutions to process or die design concerns/issues

This position is a salary grade 7 and ranges from $86,600-$144,900.

This position is a salary grade 8 and ranges from $99,100-$166,200.

Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.
