Valley Equine Reproduction in Stephenville, TX is seeking a Stallion Barn Assistant to join our breeding team. This fast‑paced, hands‑on role focuses on daily care and management of breeding stallions while supporting all aspects of stallion operations throughout the year.

The position requires exceptional horsemanship, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to horse care. During the breeding season (February–July), you will work seven days a week; off-season the schedule alternates

Qualifications

  • Horsemanship experience with breeding stallions.
  • Strong attention to detail and safety awareness.
  • Ability to follow established protocols in a fast-paced setting.
  • Willingness to learn semen collection procedures if needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily care and management of breeding stallions, maintaining horsemanship standards.
  • Exercise and condition stallions using treadmill, walker, round pen, spa and turnout.
  • Assist with semen collection and related stallion breeding procedures.
  • Administer medications and nutritional supplements as directed.
  • Maintain accurate breeding, collection and horse care records.
  • Prepare and organize the collection room and AV prep area for daily operations.
  • Present stallions professionally for clients, visitors and tours.
  • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate supply orders.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the stallion barn and facilities.
  • Perform daily tasks efficiently while following safety protocols.

Job description

Valley Equine Reproduction is seeking a Stallion Barn Assistant to join our breeding team. This position is responsible for the daily care and management of breeding stallions while supporting all aspects of stallion operations throughout the year. Working alongside an experienced team, this role offers the opportunity to be directly involved in one of the nation's leading western performance horse breeding programs. This is a fast‑paced, hands‑on position that requires exceptional horsemanship, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to horse care. During the breeding season (February - July), this position requires a seven‑day work schedule to meet the demands of the breeding program. During the off‑season, the schedule transitions to alternating weekends, providing every other weekend off. Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, and extended hours as needed is expected.

Responsibilities
  • Provide daily care and management of breeding stallions, maintaining the highest standards of horsemanship and horse welfare
  • Exercise and condition stallions through a variety of methods, including the treadmill, walker, round pen, spa and turnouts
  • Assist with semen collection and all related stallion breeding procedures
  • Administer medications and nutritional supplements as directed
  • Maintain accurate breeding, collection and horse care records
  • Prepare, organize and maintain the collection room and AV preparation area to ensure efficient daily operations
  • Present stallions professionally for clients, visitors and facility tours
  • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate the ordering of supplies
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the stallion barn and breeding facilities
  • Perform daily responsibilities with a high level of efficiently while adhering to established protocols and safety procedures
Qualifications
  • Professionally demonstrated horsemanship with the confidence and experience to safely handle breeding stallions
  • A strong interest in the western performance horse industry and a desire to contribute to a leading equine reproduction program
  • High personal and professional integrity with a genuine commitment to exceptional horse care
  • Ability to accept responsibility and consistently exercise sound judgement in the daily management of breeding stallions
  • Proven ability to remain organized, attentive, and detail‑oriented in a fast‑paced environment where safety and accuracy are essential
  • Dependable, self‑motivated and capable of following established procedures with consistency
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively as part of a team and interact professionally with clients and visitors
  • Willingness to work the schedule required by the breeding season, including seven‑day work weeks, as well as early mornings, evenings and alternating weekends during the off‑season
  • Experience with semen collection is preferred but not required for candidates who demonstrate a willingness to learn
  • Experience with Wise Options is preferred but not required
  • Ability to speak Spanish proficiently is advantagious
