Form Energy in Berkeley, CA is seeking an electrical harness engineer to advance the battery’s low‑voltage architecture. You will develop harness schematics, select components, draft PCBA interfaces, and collaborate with vendors and test teams on validation.

This role requires cross‑team collaboration, EMI mitigation, DFM/DFA considerations, and systems thinking across mechanical and electrical engineering.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in appropriate engineering field.
• 7+ years in product development.
• Hands-on experience designing electro-mechanical systems and harnesses.
• Experience with 2D/3D CAD and harness design software (Zuken E3, SolidWorks, Catia, NX).
• Strong knowledge of component ratings for product certification (UL and NEC).
• Familiarity with creation of electrical schematics and system-level validation.

Role Description

We are looking for an electrical harness engineer who can play a key role in the development of our battery’s low voltage architecture. You will be part of a rapidly growing team responsible for harness schematics, component selection, PCBA and sensor interfaces, as well as working with vendors and in-house test teams for validation testing. The staff harness engineer shall have had exposure to a broad range of technical challenges and methods in the context of product development, including sealed component selection, EMI mitigation, DFM/DFA considerations. Cross‑team collaboration throughout the product development organization is a critical part of this role, so systems‑level thinking and multidisciplinary engineering are key traits of a successful candidate.

What you’ll do:

• Work cross‑functionally with Mechanical, Electrical, Compliance engineers to define harness requirements and component selection
• Create and maintain 2D electrical single and multi‑line schematics, draft harness assembly drawings for wire harness assemblies
• Work closely with procurement teams to source materials and components from approved suppliers.
• Define ICDs (interface control document) between PCBA controllers and devices (sensors, actuators, and other controllers).
• Collaborate closely with mechanical engineers on wire harness CAD routing in consideration of Poka Yoke and DFA.
• Hands on support of system level bring‑up and validation, as well as 5D/8D experience.
• Communicate project progress, challenges, and solutions effectively to team members and management

What you’ll bring:

• A Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering OR Mechatronics Engineering
• 7+ years experience in product development (experience in energy storage or automotive is a plus)
• Hands‑on experience designing and building electro‑mechanical systems and harnesses
• Expertise with 2D (3D bonus) PLM, and Harness design software such as Zuken E3, SolidWorks, Catia or NX.
• Strong knowledge of component rating (voltage, temperature, IP etc.) in context of product certification (UL and NEC).
• Familiarity with creation of electrical schematics
• Strong electrical engineering fundamentals and familiarity with mechanical engineering fundamentals
• Bonus: direct PCBA & electronic circuitry design experience highly desired
