Job summary

Nokia is seeking a Staff Thermal Design Engineer to advance optoelectronic thermal solutions. You will develop innovative cooling methods and validate them through analysis and experiments, collaborating with teams across locations to ensure robust, manufacturable designs.

You will apply FEA/CFD, CAD tools, and vendor engagements to meet cost, yield, and cycle time targets while shaping next‑generation platforms for efficiency and performance.

Qualifications

• MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering (0-10 years’ experience).
• Expertise in FEA and CFD, with proficiency in ANSYS and FloTherm.
• Solid experience with CAD tools Pro/Engineer, Creo, SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement innovative thermal cooling solutions for optoelectronic components.
• Conduct thermal, thermo-mechanical, and mechanical FEA analyses to validate designs.
• Lead experimental validation of thermal solutions to meet specifications.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop assembly procedures and optimize designs.
• Perform FMEA on thermal designs to mitigate risks.
• Create production-level CAD models and drawings for manufacturing readiness.
• Work with vendors to finalize specifications and procure thermal components.
• Engage with manufacturing and operations to meet cost, yield, and cycle time targets.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement innovative thermal cooling solutions for cutting-edge optoelectronic components utilizing conduction, convection, and/or phase change based heat transfer.
• Conduct thermal, thermo-mechanical, and mechanical FEA analyses to model and validate designs.
• Lead experimental validation of thermal solutions to ensure performance meets specifications.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop assembly procedures and optimize product designs.
• Conduct Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) on proposed thermal designs to mitigate risks.
• Create detailed production-level CAD models and drawings for manufacturing readiness.
• Work closely with vendors to finalize specifications and manage procurement of thermal components.
• Engage with manufacturing and operations to ensure new platforms meet cost, yield, and cycle time targets.

Qualifications

You have:

• MS or PhD (preferred) in Mechanical Engineering (0-10 years’ experience)
• Expertise in FEA and CFD, with proficiency in ANSYS and FloTherm
• Solid experience with Pro/Engineer, Creo, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD
• Strong written and verbal communication skills

It would be nice if you also had:

• Knowledge of optical design principles and industry qualification specifications
• Familiarity with SQL databases and Agile product data management SW
• Experience in conducting experiments to validate modeling
• Understanding of thermal solution assembly procedures
