Qualifications

• Working knowledge of ISO 13485, ISO 14971, design controls, and medical device development.
• INCOSE CSEP certification or equivalent systems engineering certification.

It's Time to Join Stryker! Stryker is seeking a Staff Systems Engineer, Robotics to lead systems engineering activities for critical electromechanical components within a complex robotic medical platform. In this role, you will serve as a systems engineering owner for robotic end effectors, including powered surgical tools and future attachments that interface directly with the robotic system. You will help translate user and clinical needs into system architecture and requirements, define interfaces across electrical, mechanical, and software disciplines, and guide the product from requirements development through integration and verification. This role requires a highly collaborative engineer who can bring together input from multiple technical disciplines and maintain a system-level view throughout development.

What You Will Do

• Own systems engineering activities for robotic end effectors and related electromechanical subsystems.
• Translate user, clinical, and product needs into clear, verifiable system requirements and design inputs.
• Develop and refine system architectures, interfaces, and functional requirements across electrical, mechanical, software, and controls disciplines.
• Allocate and decompose system requirements to appropriate subsystems and engineering disciplines.
• Lead technical trade studies, design assessments, performance analyses, and other systems engineering activities used to guide design decisions.

Requirements, Integration, and Verification

• Establish and maintain requirements traceability throughout the product development lifecycle.
• Develop system-level verification strategies and ensure requirements can be objectively verified.
• Lead system integration activities across multiple engineering disciplines.
• Investigate and help resolve complex system-level design and integration issues.
• Lead or support system verification and validation activities as development progresses.
• Contribute to product risk management and ensure appropriate linkage between risks, requirements, mitigations, and verification evidence.
• Create and maintain engineering documentation supporting the Design History File.

Cross-Functional Leadership

• Collaborate with Electrical, Mechanical, Software, Systems, Clinical, Quality, Regulatory, Manufacturing, and other stakeholders to ensure successful system development.
• Support Voice of Customer activities and translate clinical workflows and customer needs into actionable engineering inputs.
• Mentor engineers in systems engineering, requirements development, design controls, risk management, and verification practices.
• Identify and implement improvements to systems engineering processes, tools, and practices.

What You Will Need

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• 4+ years of applicable engineering experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience developing or managing system requirements for complex products.
• Experience working across multiple engineering disciplines such as electrical, mechanical, software, systems, or test.
• Experience developing medical devices or other complex regulated products.
• Experience with systems architecture, requirements development, decomposition, interface definition, integration, and verification.
• Experience translating user or customer needs into system-level design inputs and requirements.
• Experience developing verification strategies and supporting system integration and testing.
• Experience with robotic systems, powered surgical tools, power tools, or other precision electromechanical products.
• Experience with requirements management tools such as Jama, IBM DOORS, or equivalent.
• Working knowledge of ISO 13485, ISO 14971, design controls, and medical device development practices.
• INCOSE CSEP certification or equivalent systems engineering certification.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to influence across technical disciplines.

$102,600 - $171,000 USD Annual Travel Percentage: 10%

Work Flexibility

Remote - Role allows you to work the majority to 100% of time from an alternate workplace. These roles could have travel expectations, and you must work within the country of the job requisition location. Field-based - You can expect to regularly work a majority to 100% of time at customer facilities and has a set territory or expectation to travel within a set boundary. Almost all sales roles would likely be qualified as field-based. Onsite - Role is 100% located at a Stryker facility. Some ad hoc flexibility may be available depending on role, level, and job requirements. Manufacturing roles and any role that requires physical presence at the office would qualify under this category. Hybrid - You can expect to regularly work in both an alternate workplace and a Stryker facility. Roles that are partially remote or co-located would qualify as hybrid, and the expectation to be onsite would be defined and agreed upon by your manager/supervisor.
