Job summary

Micro Systems Engineering, Inc. (MSEI) seeks a Staff System Verification and Validation Engineer to advance medical device software verification and validation.

The role focuses on automating tests for implantable and external neuromodulation devices and building utilities that integrate with third-party tools and web APIs. The candidate will contribute to test automation framework design using OO principles and design patterns, reviewing designs and code, and delivering robust test artifacts

Qualifications

• BS or MS in engineering (CS/CE/EE or related) required.
• 6 years of graduate coursework and/or experience in software verification with automated tests.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Visual Studio development environment.
• Advanced knowledge of, and development experience with C#, C++ or Java.
• Experience with configuration management, test management and defect tracking tools.
• 2 years’ experience in managing projects.

Staff System Verification and Validation Engineer

The System Verification & Validation group seeks an experienced Staff Engineer to support medical device new product development. This role focuses on developing software applications that automate verification and validation tests of implantable and external neuromodulation medical device software. The position also includes creating utilities that support automated verification, including integrations with third-party tool APIs and web-based tools. The successful candidate will contribute to test automation framework design using design patterns and sound object-oriented principles, while applying strong judgment to complex issues within established practices and policies.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Participate in all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle process, including requirements definition, analysis and design
• SW development with test frameworks and application to develop sophisticated automated tests for medical device software
• Develop algorithms to solve complex problems – be able to understand and extend designs or come up with new design approaches
• Contribute to test frameworks and tools, test design, documentation, test development/maintenance and test procedures used to drive automated test design and implementation
• Review design documentation and code generated by other engineers – C#, C++
• Execute tests to ensure conformance of code to requirements
• Generate and maintain the appropriate work products
• Review product design documents and test automation software
• Other duties may be assigned at the discretion of the manager

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• BS or MS Degree in engineering in the field of Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering or related field
• 6 years of graduate-level coursework and/or experience in software verification with considerable experience in creating and maintaining automated tests
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Visual Studio development environment
• Advanced knowledge of, and development experience with C#, C++ or Java
• Experience working with configuration management, test management and defect tracking tools
• Demonstrable success in driving one or more strategic projects to completion
• 2 years’ experience in managing projects

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience with Test automation, Quality assurance experience desirable
• Experience with software lifecycle processes in a medical device software (ISO 13485 & IEC 62304) or similarly regulated industry.
• Experience creating automated test frameworks and test scripts for Kotlin-based software systems.
• Ability to apply sound OO principles along with SW design patterns and practices
• Ability to incorporate Claude Code into programming workflow for efficiency gains

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to travel internationally and domestically, less than 5% of the time.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

If onsite, this role is based in a temperature controlled professional office setting, which may include an office or cubicle with quiet to moderate noise level. If remote, the work environment is the employee’s residence. Work may need to be completed on campus in a lab, or manufacturing environment such as clean room or warehouse. Personal protective equipment is required in the clean room and may be needed in a lab. The noise level in the lab, and manufacturing environments are quiet to moderate. The role may travel to vendors, customers, external training, expos, industry or product events, and networking events shifting the work environment.
