Job summary

Supermicro is seeking a Staff Software Engineer - Switch Design to lead the design and development of high-performance networking software for data center platforms. The role centers on SONiC-based operating systems and integration with leading networking ASICs.

You will drive architecture, optimization, and mentorship across software, hardware, and QA teams, aligning with product and platform requirements while engaging with the open-source SONiC community.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Computer Science or related STEM field.
• 12+ years of software development experience in networking or system software.
• Strong programming skills in C/C++ and/or Go.
• Expertise in data structures, algorithms, and software design.
• Solid understanding of L2/L3 networking: routing and control plane concepts.
• Experience with packet forwarding engines (Broadcom XGS, Marvell, VPP, Linux kernel).
• Hands-on experience with SONiC network operating system development or deployment (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Design and optimize software modules, drivers, and APIs for high-performance forwarding and control planes.
• Define software architecture integrating SONiC with hardware platform infrastructure for scalability and reliability.
• Develop and maintain interfaces for telemetry, diagnostics, and system management.
• Lead optimization of system performance, power efficiency, and resource utilization.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship across software, hardware, and QA teams.
• Collaborate with product, hardware, and platform teams to align requirements and deliverables.
• Contribute upstream to the SONiC community, review patches, and align with community direction.
• Evaluate and adopt new tools and technologies to accelerate development and testing cycles.
