Job summary

Northrop Grumman seeks a Staff Structural Engineer to perform linear and nonlinear structural analyses of components and underwater assemblies. You will lead a small team, ensuring designs meet requirements, schedules, and budgets while collaborating across disciplines.

Qualifications include a BS in Engineering and 12+ years of experience (or equivalent), proficiency with FEMAP/Nastran and/or ANSYS, and US citizenship with polygraph eligibility. Annapolis, MD on-site role.

The Naval & Oceanic Systems business unit headquartered in Annapolis, MD is seeking dependable individuals willing to work in a collaborative environment and that are interested in expanding their horizons.The Mechanical Engineering Department is seeking a Staff Structural Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals.

Essential Functions

Perform linear and non-linear structural analyses of individual components and complex underwater assemblies using a combination of hand-calculations, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and bolted joint calculations. Ability to lead a small team of structural analysts to support program’s analysis needs. Ensure that designs meet program requirements and are consistent with program schedule and budget objectives.

The candidate must be able to collaborate in a team environment, prioritize and adjust tasks to accomplish the project result, prioritize multiple responsibilities and/or accomplishing them simultaneously, and comprehend and analyze complex problems and develop solutions. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.

Basic Qualifications For a Staff Structural Engineer

• BS degree in Engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical or equivalent STEM) and a minimum of 12 years of experience in structural analysis; MS degree with 10 yearsof experience in structural analysis; or PhD with 8 years of experience in structural analysis.
• Ability to work on-site at Annapolis, MD campus.
• Able to work in a fast-paced environment where multiple projects are being developed and deployed simultaneously.
• Proficiency in FEMAP/Nastran and/or ANSYS FEA tools for performing linear and non-linear analyses.
• Experience with Finite Element Analysis tools, bolted joint analysis, and structural hand calculations.
• Proficiency in using common engineering design, production, analysis, and office tools.
• US citizen with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI and pass a polygraph.

Preferred Qualifications For a Staff Structural Engineer

• Familiarity with underwater/naval systems such as torpedoes, towed vehicles, Uncrewed Underwater Vehicles (UUV), Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROV), Submarines, etc.
• Demonstrated skills/experience in the following multi-disciplined areas: shock, vibration, and fracture analysis.
• Demonstrated skills/experience with CFD analysis, familiarity with materials design for the undersea environment, manufacturing techniques, and integration and test.
• Proficiency in conducting Finite Element Analysis, bolted joint analysis, and structural hand calculations.
• Active TS/SSBI/SCI clearance with current polygraph.

Primary Level Salary Range: $169,000.00 - $253,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
