Job summary

Mater Hospital Springfield is seeking Staff Specialists in Neonatal and Paediatrics to join our permanent, part-time team (32 hours per week, negotiable). You will deliver comprehensive Neonatal and Paediatric care, participate in on-call duties and collaborate with clinical teams to drive service improvement.

You will hold FRACP Fellowship with subspecialty training, maintain high standards of care, teaching, and partnerships across public and private health systems.

Qualifications

  • Current general registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • FRACP fellowship with subspecialty training or significant experience in Neonatal and Paediatrics.
  • Ability to manage complex neonatal and paediatric cases.
  • Understanding of public and private health systems.

Responsibilities

About the role

Mater Hospital Springfield is seeking applications for Staff Specialists in Neonatal and Paediatrics to join the team in this permanent, part-time, 32hrs per week (negotiable) opportunity.

Mater Hospital Springfield, our state-of-the-art facility that opened in May 2026, is proud to be delivering exceptional care to our growing community. We are building a dynamic, collaborative and expert medical team to lead the way in Neonatal and Paediatric services.

Our Paediatrics unit features a 12-bed facility, while the Neonatal Critical Care Unit (NCCU) includes 16 beds, providing comprehensive, specialised care to the most vulnerable patients.

Salary: Commensurate with experience plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!

What you’ll be doing

You will deliver comprehensive Neonatal and Paediatric services, contributing to on-call duties, collaborating with clinical teams and driving continuous service improvement at Mater Hospital Springfield.

  • Support inpatient management in partnership with Neonatology, Paediatrics, and allied clinical teams
  • Monitor, review, and contribute to improvements in Neonatal and Paediatric services
  • Engage in departmental audits, morbidity and mortality meetings
  • Work closely with administrative, nursing and allied health teams to deliver integrated care
  • Maintain professional development through relevant education and training programs
  • Ensure compliance with clinical documentation, incident reporting, infection control, and workplace health and safety standards
  • Represent the Department in meetings and support teaching and clinical procedures within the services
About you

You are a qualified Staff Specialist (SMO) with recognised training in neonatal and paediatric care, capable of managing complex cases with clinical expertise and compassion and committed to effective communication, teaching and collaborative practice within public and private health systems.

  • Current general registration with the Medical Board of Australia
  • Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP), with subspecialty training or significant experience in Neonatology and Paediatrics
  • Ability to manage complex neonatal and paediatric medical conditions
  • Understanding of both public and private health care systems
  • Strong communication skills across all professional levels
  • Ability to foster positive, collaborative relationships
  • Demonstrated interest and experience in teaching and mentoring
  • Willingness to participate in an out-of-hours on-call roster
