Job summary

Gladstone Hospital is seeking a Consultant Anaesthetist (Senior Staff Specialist / Staff Specialist) to join a modern 70-bed regional facility. You will provide anaesthetic and perioperative care across a broad case mix, lead pre-anaesthetic clinics and contribute to governance and teaching.

The role offers leadership opportunities, regional community impact and work-life balance in a coastal setting. Fellowship of FANZCA and eligibility for AHPRA Specialist Registration are required.

Responsibilities

• Provide anaesthetic services across a broad case mix including general surgery, orthopaedics, obstetrics and endoscopy.

• Deliver advanced procedural care: airway, ventilation, venous access and pain management.
• Participate in HDU rounds and high-acuity patient care.
• Coordinate patient transfers with Retrieval Services Queensland and manage on-call roster.
• Contribute to clinical governance, audits and quality improvement; mentor juniors.

As a Consultant Anaesthetist, You Will

• Provide anaesthetic services across a broad case mix including:
• General surgery
• Orthopaedics
• Obstetrics & gynaecology
• Endoscopy and procedural lists
• Dental and investigative services
• Lead pre-anaesthetic assessment clinics
• Deliver care to high-acuity patients, including HDU ward rounds
• Provide advanced procedural care including:
• Airway management
• Ventilatory support
• Central venous access
• Acute and perioperative pain management
• Coordinate patient transfers with Retrieval Services Queensland
• Participate in the on-call and after-hours roster
• Contribute to clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement
• Mentor and supervise junior doctors and medical students
