Thunderbird Technologies Corporation is seeking a Staff Software Engineer, Services, to shape architecture for web-based products like calendar and secure storage. You will own technical direction, collaborate with designers, engineers, and the community, and influence product and platform decisions.

In this fully remote role, you’ll mentor others, drive scalable patterns, and help grow Thunderbird’s Services offerings while maintaining Mozilla values and a focus on user privacy and security.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of web software development experience.
• Expert-level JavaScript and additional language (Python, Rust, Go, or C++).
• Experience with front-end frameworks, full-stack development, and/or API development.
• Experience acting as a technical lead and mentoring engineers.
• Ability to collaborate remotely across disciplines.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication.
• Willingness to travel internationally.
• Comfort in open-source environments and Mozilla values.
• Ability to learn and use emerging technologies, including AI-enabled tools.
• Commitment to continuous learning and staying current with industry trends.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical architecture of new Services products, taking ownership of complex projects.
• Write code, build prototypes and experiments across the development lifecycle.
• Help establish software patterns and make technical decisions for Services products.
• Build and evolve analytics and infrastructure to leverage user data for decisions.
• Tackle high-level, broad-scope problems impacting Services goals.
• Provide technical and product direction across Thunderbird and collaborate with Mozilla teams.
• Work with designers, engineers and community to surface issues and implement solutions.
• Identify improvements to make systems scalable, self-serviceable, and easier to delegate.
• Mentor engineers through code review, documentation, and discussions.
• Stay current with evolving technologies and apply best practices.
