Anthropic is bringing Claude to the U.S. government and allied democracies, and we’re looking for startup-minded engineers to grow our public sector engineering team. This is a small team with large surface area.

You’ll work across the stack to take products from 0 to 1 and beyond. You’ll own work like building Claude products for regulated environments, deploying Claude into government networks, and scaling the platform for government workflows such as policy research and benefits

We Are Looking For Product- And Civic-minded Engineers With a Track Record Of Building And Scaling Great Products. The Opportunities Outpace Our Ability To Build Them All, So The Right Candidate Thrives On Sharp Judgment, Prioritization, And Focus. You’ll Own Work Like

• Building Claude products that can be used by customers in highly regulated environments
• Deploying Claude into government networks
• Understanding and improving Claude’s usefulness in common government workflows – for example, policy research, benefits administration, intelligence analysis
• Scaling and innovating Claude for Government, our existing product serving U.S. government customers today

Our team is filling a number of roles and is open to candidates with either full-stack or backend experience.

Minimum Qualifications

• Experience building AI products and a working intuition for their capabilities and limitations
• A strong technical track record building and shipping enterprise- or government-grade products
• Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills — you’ll partner with sales, legal, research, and policy teams alike

Preferred Qualifications

• Have 8+ years of experience as a full stack or backend software engineer
• Startup experience, particularly in scaling products from zero to one
• Experience partnering with sales, customer success, and professional services teams to drive product adoption
• Experience deploying software on government networks
• Active federal security clearance (Secret or above)

This position requires verification of U.S. citizenship due to citizenship-based legal restrictions. Specifically, this position supports a United States federal, state, and/or local government agency customer and is subject to certain citizenship-based restrictions where required or permitted by applicable law. To meet this legal requirement, citizenship will be verified via a valid passport, or other approved documents, or verified US government clearance.

The annual compensation range for this role is listed below.

For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role.

Annual Salary

$405,000 - $485,000 USD

Logistics

Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience

Required field of study: A field relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience

Minimum years of experience: Years of experience required will correlate with the internal job level requirements for the position

Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices.

Visa sponsorship: We do sponsor visas! However, we aren't able to successfully sponsor visas for every role and every candidate. But if we make you an offer, we will make every reasonable effort to get you a visa, and we retain an immigration lawyer to help with this.
