Job summary

Gusto is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Pro Integrations team to own integrations between Gusto and third‑party tools used by accountants. You will work across the stack (Ruby on Rails, Sidekiq) and evaluate AI patterns like MCP while collaborating with Product, Design, and Data Science to fit workflows.

This high‑ownership role offers mentorship as the Integrations portfolio grows and is based in Denver, San Francisco, or New York with hybrid office days.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software development experience.
• Experience owning multi‑quarter projects end‑to‑end.
• Strong platform engineering background: services, APIs, data flows.
• Familiarity with AI agent protocols or agentic integration patterns is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Own and extend Gusto's existing third‑party integrations and build new ones.
• Design and build reliable backend services (Rails, Sidekiq) that sync data with partner platforms.
• Evaluate new integration patterns, including MCP, as we expand beyond traditional APIs.
• Help define technical approach and roadmap for the Integrations domain.
• Partner with Product, Design, and Data Science to validate workflows and iterate.
