Job summary

Google LLC in Kirkland, WA is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for Lustre AI/ML on Google Cloud Storage. You will drive Lustre integration with GCP and collaborate with GKE, GCS, Vertex AI, and GCE to optimize the stack.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent, 8 years of C++ experience, 5 years in testing and launching software, 5 years in large-scale infrastructure or distributed systems, and 3 years of software design experience. A Master’s/PhD is preferred for advanced topics.

  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional, or cross-business projects.
  • Experience with parallel file systems.

Responsibilities

  • Work with customers on Lustre deployment to diagnose problems and optimize performance.
  • Add features to Lustre that integrate with GCP technologies and enable AI/ML workloads on GCP.
  • Lustre performance measurements, bottleneck investigation, and performance improvements.
  • Manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables.
  • Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance large-scale software solutions.

Staff Software Engineer, Lustre AI/ML, Google Cloud Storage

  • Paid Time Off: 20 days of vacation per year, accruing at a rate of 6.15 hours per pay period for the first five years of employment
  • Sick Time: 40 hours/year (increased to 69 hours/year for Seattle) including 5 discretionary sick days per instance
  • Maternity Leave (Short-Term Disability + Baby Bonding): 28-30 weeks
  • Baby Bonding Leave: 18 weeks
  • Holidays: 13 paid days per year

  • Work with customers on their Lustre deployment to diagnose problems and optimize performance. Help customers profile their workload, and tune it for Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Add features to Lustre that integrate with GCP technologies, enabling customers to bring their AI/ML workloads to GCP. Work with partner teams like GKE, GCS, Vertex AI, GCE, etc. to optimize the GCP stack end-to-end.
  • Lustre performance measurements, investigating bottlenecks, and perf improvements. Work with teams across GCP to unlock all of Lustre's potential.
  • Manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables.
  • Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance large scale software solutions.
