Google Sunnyvale is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join the Infrastructure team that powers Google Cloud Compute Infrastructure. You will help build, test, deploy, monitor, and evolve scalable software stacks for a world‑class cloud platform used by millions.

The role requires strong programming and systems design skills, experience with data structures and algorithms, testing and deployment, and a commitment to long‑term excellence.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of professional software development in at least one programming language and with data structures and algorithms.
• 2+ years in testing, monitoring, or deploying software systems; 1 year in software architecture and design.
• 2+ years building software for data validation or security (e.g., character filtering and access control).
• Long-term commitment or reasonable experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead configuration audits with colleagues and partners to select best solutions.
• Audit code for best practices (style, testing, correctness, testability, scalability).

The role focuses on building, testing, deploying, monitoring, and evolving software stacks that support a reliable, scalable, and secure cloud platform for millions of users worldwide.

Responsibilities

• Structure and test components or framework code.
• Participate in, or lead configuration audits with colleagues and partners to select the best solutions.
• Audit code produced by other engineers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style rules, rigorous testing, correctness, testability, and scalability).
• Add to existing documentation or instructional content and update it regarding software/feature releases and user documentation changes.
• Triage production or development incidents and investigate/track/resolve by isolating the root cause and the impact on systems, partners, or business processes and quality.

Minimum Qualifications

• 2+ years of professional software development experience in at least one programming language and with data structures and algorithms.
• 2+ years of experience in testing, monitoring, or deploying software systems, and 1 year of experience in software architecture and design.
• 2+ years of experience building software for data validation or security (e.g., character filtering and access control).
• Long‑term commitment or reasonable experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• High‑level or Ph.D. in computer science or a related field.
• 1+ year of experience in a specific area of excellence.
• Hands‑on experience with releasing production software.
