Job summary

Google LLC in Sunnyvale, CA seeks a Staff Software Engineer for Google Distributed Cloud Networking to design and build high‑performance distributed systems and networking solutions. You will contribute Go/C++ production code for Kubernetes components and automation, and mentor engineers while shaping technical direction in a large, matrixed environment.

Required is extensive experience in C++, distributed systems, and software architecture, with preferred advanced degrees.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of experience programming in C++.
• 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products.
• 5 years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture.
• 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.

Responsibilities

• Architect and design resilient, high-performance distributed systems and backend services that power large-scale Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) and container networking platforms.
• Develop and optimize production-grade code (primarily in Go/C++) for Kubernetes components, custom controllers, and orchestration engines running across massive fleet environments.
• Build and evolve software-defined networking, network virtualization, and data center connectivity layers to ensure low-latency, scalable, and secure traffic orchestration.
• Drive system reliability and performance tuning across large-scale distributed deployments by instituting robust testing frameworks, telemetry, and fault-tolerant architectural patterns.
• Mentor engineers and lead technical strategy, while actively collaborating with cross-functional partners and engaging with the broader open-source/cloud-native ecosystem.
