Job summary

ezCater is seeking a Staff Engineer for the Finance Technology team in the US. You will own the architecture for pay-ins, payouts, invoicing, and tax, and define APIs across channels. You will lead multi-quarter initiatives end-to-end while staying hands-on and mentoring others.

You will drive technical health, evaluate providers, prototype with PSPs, and lead innovations in AI-native SDLC, collaborating with senior leaders across ezCater. This role offers remote-hybrid work from Boston or home.

Creating a delightful customer experience from order creation to delivery is a key part of ezCater’s mission. As a Staff Engineer on our Finance Technology team, you will focus on building solutions that will transform ezCater’s finance technology platform as ezCater scales and builds new features that enables an agentic commerce future. This will include building a first-class, modern tech stack that pairs ezCater’s existing software solutions with AI-enabled tooling. You will focus on designing and implementing features for this new tech stack that will enable performant, safe, and compliant financial transactions for our customers and restaurant partners (RP). This includes credit card processing, invoicing, payouts to Restaurant Partners, and calculating taxes.

In addition to this, you’ll be a key driving force behind growing our engineering organization through mentorship and coaching of other technical leaders, establishing and rolling out technical and architectural standards, and contributing to an inclusive and transparent culture.

What You’ll Do:

• Own the architecture for the Finance Technology platform, which includes pay-ins, payouts, invoicing, and tax calculation. You’ll make the architectural calls to unlock the next several years of scale.
• Define clear, well-versioned APIs and contracts for how Finance Technology services are consumed across all channels.
• Lead multi-quarter initiatives end-to-end: shape the problem with Product, design the system, break the work down, and deliver alongside the team while staying hands‑on in the code.
• Own technical health for the domain by defining engineering quality and tracking the operational metrics to show that the quality bar has been met.
• Maintain a perspective on the evolving financial technology landscape and lead the technical evaluation of finance technology providers, e.g. payment service providers. This will include prototyping, technical spikes, and keeping abreast of “what’s next”.
• Be a leader in Finance Technology’s continued innovation and experimentation on our AI-native SDLC .
• Partner with senior leaders across ezCater to align on shared patterns and standards. This includes leaders in engineering and product as well as other senior leaders in other organizations at ezCater.
• Lead through collaborative design: whiteboarding, technical discussions, and aligning teams around clear architectural decisions.
• Partner with Platform Engineering on shared service patterns, Temporal, observability, secrets, and CI/CD.
• Act as a technical multiplier through design reviews, code reviews, architectural guidance, and mentorship.
• Be part of an on‑call rotation that we work to make as uneventful as possible, and lead the team in triaging and investigating customer‑impacting production issues.

What you have:

• 8+ years building backend services.
• 4+ years with Go.
• Led multi-quarter, multi-team initiatives as tech lead - owning architecture, sequencing work, and shipping - with proven influence without authority.
• Deep experience with payment-processing and payout systems (card processing, invoicing, refunds, disbursements, tax) in high-volume products.
• Hands‑on integration with modern PSPs/gateways (Stripe, Adyen, Braintree, card networks) and a grasp of settlement, chargebacks, PCI, and SCA.
• Built and scaled high‑integrity systems where correctness, security, and reliability are non‑negotiable (payments, ledgers, billing, or similar critical distributed systems).
• Strong instincts for API/contract design and service boundaries.
• A quality mindset: security, automated testing, clean code, CI/CD, and safe incremental rollouts (feature flags, telemetry).
• Clear written and verbal communication on system design and technical tradeoffs.
• Demonstrated use of AI tools to improve the SDLC without sacrificing rigor.
• Workflow orchestration (e.g., Temporal); card issuance or ledgering.

The national total target cash compensation range for this position, including base salary and bonus target, is $184,000–$232,000 annually.
