Robinhood is seeking a Staff Level Engineer to lead the Brokerage Infrastructure team, defining the technical vision, driving modernization, and raising reliability for order processing and account management at scale.

You will manage 10+ engineers across levels, own cross-team priorities, and collaborate with product and infra to keep Robinhood's platform fast, available, and secure.

Qualifications

• 10+ years engineering experience with several years at staff level and prior team lead experience.
• Deep expertise with tier zero or mission-critical systems at scale (millions to tens of millions of QPS).
• Experience managing engineering teams of ~10+ engineers, including senior and staff-level ICs.
• Experience leading architectural migrations or modernization efforts (language rewrites, routing simplification, storage improvements).
• Strong ownership mentality; rigorous engineering processes; attention to edge cases.

Brokerage Infrastructure team owns our platform — Robinhood's tier zero, mission-critical service responsible for all order processing, account management, and platform availability during the moments that matter most. Our systems handle millions of transactions per second across high-volume market events, and our reliability is non-negotiable! We are a team of 10+ engineers, with a culture of deep ownership, engineering rigor, and relentless focus on correctness and scale.

We're looking for a Staff Level Engineer to step into a high-visibility leadership role at a pivotal moment for the platform. In this role, you'll define the technical vision, lead modernization initiatives and set the reliability bar across Robinhood's most critical infrastructure. You'll manage a team of 10+ engineers at various levels, own cross-team stakeholder relationships, and drive the engineering excellence that keeps our systems running at scale!

This role is based in our Menlo Park, CA and New York, NY office(s), with hybrid attendance expected 3 days per week.

What you'll do

• Define and execute the technical vision and roadmap for the platform, Robinhood's tier zero order processing and account management system
• Lead and develop a team of 10+ engineers at various levels, coaching and mentoring emerging leaders, setting a high technical bar, and fostering a culture of ownership and accountability
• Drive modernization initiatives including and resolving core storage bottlenecks
• Own reliability and uptime KPIs — including SLOs for subsecond order latency, high availability, capacity planning, and rapid incident recovery during high-volume trading events
• Collaborate across infrastructure and product teams to enforce reliability standards and align on technical direction
• Proactively identify scalability and reliability risks, champion preventative solutions, and coordinate fast, effective incident response
• Shape hiring, onboarding, and the engineering culture as the platform continues to scale

What you bring

• 10+ years of professional engineering experience, with several years at the staff level and prior Team Lead experience
• Deep expertise with tier zero or mission-critical systems at significant scale — you've contributed to or maintained systems operating at millions to tens of millions of QPS
• Demonstrated experience managing engineering teams of ~10+ engineers, including senior and staff-level ICs
• Experience leading architectural migrations or modernization efforts (e.g., language rewrites, traffic routing simplification, storage improvements)
• Strong ownership mentality: you question scalability assumptions, enforce rigorous engineering processes, and think through edge cases others miss
• Track record of maintaining system correctness and reliability in high-accountability production environments (financial order execution, account management, or similar)
• Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence and align across infrastructure and product organizations

In addition to the base pay range listed below, this role is also eligible for bonus opportunities + equity + benefits.

Base pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. The expected base pay range for this role is based on the location where the work will be performed and is aligned to one of 3 compensation zones. For other locations not listed, compensation can be discussed with your recruiter during the interview process.

$230,000 — $270,000 USD

Zone 2 (Denver, CO; Westlake, TX; Chicago, IL)

$203,000 — $238,000 USD

Zone 3 (Lake Mary, FL; Clearwater, FL; Gainesville, FL)

$180,000 — $211,000 USD
