Job summary

Hercules is seeking a Staff Billing and Monetization engineer to build and own our billing, payments, and monetization infrastructure. You will own everything billing and monetization at Hercules, including subscriptions, usage-based billing, rewards, and one-time charges.

Responsibilities include integrating with Stripe/Adyen/Paypal, enabling Hercules Commerce, and ensuring fast, reliable, and scalable processing with robust webhooks and reconciliations.

Qualifications

• Experience with providers like Stripe/Adyen and subscriptions, usage-based billing, and regulatory considerations.
• Strong fundamentals in system design, architecture, data modeling, and API design.
• Ability to write clean, maintainable code and work effectively in monorepos.
• Track record of independently shipping features to customers.
• Familiarity with the core stack: TypeScript, React, containers, databases, and workflow engines.

Responsibilities

• Own billing and monetization at Hercules across plans, subscriptions, and usage-based billing.
• Lead integrations with payment providers and multiple currencies to support Hercules Commerce.
• Ensure latency, reliability, and scalable webhook processing as volumes grow.

What are we looking for?

Hercules is looking for a Staff Billing and Monetization engineer to build and own our billing, payments, and monetization infrastructure.

What will you do?

You will own everything billing and monetization at Hercules

• Billing and subscriptions: Plans, subscriptions, entitlements, prorations, credits, and one-time charges
• Usage-based billing: AI credits, Cloud credits, usage metering, and overage charges.
• Payments and providers: Integrations with popular payment providers like Stripe, Adyen, Paypal and other popular payment providers. Our goal is to support as many payment methods and currencies as we can
• Hercules Commerce: The billing and payment capabilities our customers can use inside their apps to transact with their customers. Similar to Stripe Connect
• Latency, reliability, and scale: Fast, resilient infrastructure with robust webhook processing, retries, and reconciliation as usage and transaction volumes grow

What skills do we expect you to have?

We expect candidates to be incredibly strong across all of the following areas:

• Billing and payments: extensive experience with providers like Stripe, Adyen, etc., and subscriptions, usage-based billing, regulation, and more
• Software fundamentals: system design, architecture, data modeling, and API design
• Code and codebase quality: write clean, maintainable code. Work effectively in monorepos
• Product/design sense: track record of independently shipping lots of features to customers
• Our core stack: TypeScript, React, containers, Postgres, Redis, and Temporal
• AI: able to truly 10x your workflow by being on frontier of AI coding

$100k-$300k + equity (variable based on seniority, equity, and location)
