Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a computer science, computer engineering or related field and 4 years of software engineering experience, or 6 years of software engineering experience.

  • Proven ability to mentor engineers and influence technical decisions.

Position Summary

The (USA) Staff, Software Engineer plays a critical role in delivering scalable platform capabilities and driving the full software development lifecycle, including design, coding, testing, deployment, and maintenance. This position requires expertise in cloud-native architecture, API design, and AI/ML integration to build resilient, modular solutions. The role involves technical leadership, mentoring, and collaboration across teams to ensure alignment with business objectives and engineering excellence. The engineer applies data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement practices to enhance productivity and deliver high-quality software solutions that support Walmart's strategic goals.

The Membership Experience Engineering team at Walmart develops technology that enables seamless shopping journeys for millions of customers. Focused on delivering exceptional experiences anytime and anywhere, the team continuously evolves to meet customer needs. Walmart+ is transforming shopping both online and in-store, and this team plays a key role in designing scalable mobile platforms and enhancing membership features. Engineers collaborate to build robust backend systems, apply cloud-native architecture, and leverage data-driven decision-making. What You've Done
  • Deliver platform capabilities including infrastructure, tooling, and ML frameworks aligned with roadmap milestones and domain priorities.
  • Drive full software development lifecycle activities such as coding, testing, deployment, observability, and maintenance.
  • Apply cloud-native architecture principles to ensure scalability, resilience, and agility across systems.
  • Conduct system design reviews to validate feasibility, quality, and alignment with architectural best practices.
  • Build AI-driven applications and integrate ML components to support automation and multi-step reasoning.
  • Mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and promote engineering excellence through documentation and knowledge sharing.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate complex problems into actionable technical requirements and track success metrics.
What You’ll Bring
  • Proven expertise in cloud-native architecture, including microservices, containers, and automation to build scalable and resilient systems.
  • Strong experience in software design patterns, API design, and software prototyping to deliver maintainable and modular solutions.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, Java, Rust, Dart, or C++.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead full software development lifecycle activities including coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and observability.
  • Skilled in data-driven decision making and problem solving to optimize engineering processes and product outcomes.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical decisions to promote engineering excellence and sustainability.

Salary

Sunnyvale, California US-11349: The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00 - $286,000.00

Bentonville, Arkansas US-10735: The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00 - $220,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include : - Stock

Minimum Qualifications
  • Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Option 2: 6 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 2 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
