Anaconda, Inc. is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the evolution of Kilo Code, our flagship VS Code extension with over 5 million downloads processing more than 10 trillion tokens per month.

You'll join a 15-person engineering team with average 10+ years of experience and own high-impact features from day one. You'll set technical direction for performance optimization, collaborate across extension, backend, and AI infrastructure, and mentor engineers while maintaining velocity and

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional software development experience.
• Proven track record setting technical direction for complex projects.
• Experience building developer tools, IDE extensions, or productivity software with 100K+ users.
• Track record of performance optimization at scale.
• Experience with AI-assisted coding tools, chat interfaces, or agent-based workflows.
• Ability to influence decisions across teams and mentor engineers.
• Based in and able to work Eastern Time Zone hours.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction for performance optimization and establish patterns.
• Design, build, and ship advanced features for granular auto-approval rules, context optimization, and Smart Apply workflows.
• Drive cross-team initiatives spanning extension, backend, and AI infrastructure.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews and architectural discussions.
• Own end-to-end delivery from design to production deployment.
• Establish engineering standards for AI coding workflows.
• Identify and prioritize technical debt and bottlenecks.
• Partner with Product and Design to shape roadmap priorities.
