Job summary

Dovetail is seeking a Staff Engineer to drive technical direction and unblock high‑leverage problems across teams. You will shape architectures for scalable, AI‑native systems processing unstructured data, and mentor engineers to improve overall delivery.

This in‑person‑first role (4 days/week) is based from our Surry Hills HQ, with a focus on reliability, performance, and security of enterprise‑grade platforms. You’ll partner with product and design to ship impactful features.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience building web products with full‑stack web apps.
• Hands‑on experience with TypeScript, React, GraphQL, Node, PostgreSQL on AWS/GCP.
• Experience with OO languages such as C++, Java, Python; essential for this role.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction across your team, making architecture and design decisions that balance speed today against scale tomorrow.
• Drive complex, cross‑functional projects from ambiguity to shipped, collaborating with product, design, and other engineering teams.
• Raise the engineering bar through code reviews, system design, and technical standards; mentor teammates to level up.
• Own the reliability, performance, and security of systems handling enterprise‑grade data; identify critical work and execute on it.
• Establish detailed guidelines and standards for product development processes based on industry best practices and experience.
