Job summary

Gusto is seeking a Staff Engineer to build and scale new products focused on business money and accounting experiences. You will own complex projects, drive architecture decisions, and lead the team through the full product lifecycle, leveraging AI tools to improve efficiency and impact.

You will collaborate with Engineering, Product, Design, Data Science, and Compliance to deliver reliable financial tools for small to mid-sized businesses.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software development experience.
• Experience architecting, building, and testing large-scale distributed systems.
• Maximizes the use of AI tooling while guiding the team in adopting modern AI practices.
• Comfortable dealing with ambiguity with quick iteration cycles.
• Ability to communicate technical complexity and facilitate informed tradeoffs.

Responsibilities

• Build products & services and scale the platform that powers business money and accounting experiences at Gusto.
• Take ownership of projects, ensuring high quality and performance.
• Adopt latest AI practices across product development.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Engineering, Product, Design, Data Science, Compliance, Operations).
• Engage in a supportive environment to drive productivity and innovation.
• Help drive product development from concept to launch.
