Job summary

BlackLine in New York is seeking an AI Staff Engineer to help build and refine our fintech AI platform, reporting to the VP of Engineering. You will partner with product and engineering teams to move AI features from concept to production.

You will design scalable AI systems, manage model orchestration and caching, and evaluate new AI technologies to stay at the cutting edge. A strong background in full-stack engineering and production LLMs is required.

Qualifications

• 4+ years as a Full Stack Software Engineer in a large enterprise.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• Experience with production LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, etc.).
• Proficient with RAG in production applications.
• Experience with data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes.

Overview

Make Your Mark: As an AI Staff Engineer you will play a crucial role in developing and refining our product’s AI, reporting directly to our VP of Engineering and working closely with engineering and product teams to enhance our fintech AI platform.

Responsibilities

• Utilize best‑in‑class models available on the market to deliver meaningful solutions for our clients, taking them from concept to production.
• Collaborate with the team to integrate AI solutions into our existing production processes.
• Design and implement scalable AI system architecture, handling model orchestration, caching strategies, and fallback mechanisms.
• Evaluate and implement new AI technologies and methodologies to keep WiseLayer and BlackLine at the cutting edge.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience as a Full Stack Software Engineer or in a similar role developing, shipping, and testing software within a well‑established enterprise (bonus for experience in a fast growth enterprise).
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience working with production LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, etc.) including handling rate limits, cost optimization, and performance monitoring in live systems.
• Clear experience utilizing frameworks like RAG in production applications to enhance foundational models for proprietary applications and datasets.
• Experience with AI system testing methodologies including model evaluation, A/B testing of AI features, and monitoring model performance in production.
• Experience with data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes.

Desired Additional Experience

• Prior working experience with appliances such as firewalls, routers, and load balancers.

Compensation

Salary Range: $210,000.00 – $263,000.00. Placement within this range depends on factors including prior relevant experience, skill set, and geographic location. In addition to base pay, BlackLine offers short‑term and long‑term incentive programs based on eligibility, along with a robust benefit and wellness plan. Pay transparency, inclusive of variable incentive components such as an Incentive Compensation Plan (ICP) or On‑Target Earnings (OTE), may follow a split model (e.g., 50/50, 70/30, or 60/40) between base salary and variable incentive.
