Job summary

Google LLC is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Ads and Commerce Advisor Platform in Mountain View, CA. This role focuses on leading ML-driven architecture and deploying scalable AI-enabled advertising tech. You will guide cross-functional teams and shape platform direction to support billions of interactions.

The role emphasizes system design, AI tooling, and collaborative problem solving with Google Research/DeepMind partners. In-person interviews are typical.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of experience in software development.
• 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products, and 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.
• 5 years of experience leading ML design and optimizing ML infrastructure (e.g., model deployment, model evaluation, data processing, debugging, fine tuning).
• 2 years of experience with state of the art GenAI techniques (e.g., LLMs, Multi-Modal, Large Vision Models) or GenAI concepts (language modeling, computer vision).

Responsibilities

• Set the technical direction and roadmap for the orchestration runtime behind the initiatives: the streaming reasoning loop, function calling, context and memory management, sub-agent and remote-agent protocols, and GenUI response streaming.
• Own how the platform adopts new model generations and inference APIs, prompting and tool-calling standards, thinking and streaming capabilities, and the migration playbook that moves XXB monthly requests without regressions.
• Mentor platform engineers, set design and code review standards, and raise the organization's expertise in production agentic systems.
• Advance how 300+ skills and tools are discovered, loaded, versioned and governed so teams ship independently without destabilizing the whole system.
• Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance large scale software solutions.
