We are seeking a staff software engineer who is passionate, experienced and versatile, with full-stack, polyglot capabilities and a customer-focused mindset. This position is fully remote with occasional travel and requires a track record of architecting and scaling complex systems, along with leadership in engineering excellence.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of engineering excellence and demonstrated architecture experience.
• Experience scaling complex, multi-user systems with reliability and security focus.
• Proven ability to learn new languages and architectures quickly.

Responsibilities

• Partner with product and leadership to translate ambiguous requirements into plans.
• Hands-on coding and feature delivery across the stack on a daily basis.
• Define and influence technical strategy and architecture for the product.
• Champion operational excellence, reliability, quality and risk reduction.
• Contribute to security/compliance posture (SOC 2, data integrity, 21 CFR Part 11 considerations).
• Mentor engineers and raise the technical bar as the team scales.
• Participate in hiring, interviews, and represent engineering with customers.

Bluefin Clinical is a venture-backed startup building robust, flexible, class-leading software for the clinical trial supply industry. Our software is responsible for ensuring life-saving drug products are produced & distributed to meet patient demand in clinical trials. Our customers love Bluefin for its design, security, and modern platform features. We are growing to scale to meet customer demand and accelerate development of our product pipeline.

We’re seeking a staff software engineer who is passionate, experienced and skilled, versatile, and customer-and business- oriented. In this role, we will also need someone who is full-stack and polyglot (see specific technologies below).

This position is fully remote with occasional travel.

Responsibilities

• Partner closely with product and executive leadership to inform and implement company strategy. Work with internal stakeholders such as Product and UX to rapidly distill initially ambiguous requirements into concrete and actionable plans
• Be a strong, hands-on contributor delivering code and features day-to-day
• Inform technical strategy and architecture for our product across all engineering domains
• Champion operational excellence: reliability, quality, and continuous risk reduction across the product. Help document and champion implementation of the engineering standards that ensure it.
• Help drive the security and compliance posture appropriate our product, e.g. SOC 2, data integrity, and potentially GxP/21 CFR Part 11 consideration
• Accelerate application development and uplevel engineering staff via mentorship role modeling
• Help grow the team: participate in interviewing and raising the technical bar as we scale
• Represent engineering with customers and other internal and external stakeholders
• Be AI-literate, leveraging the latest technologies to inform the technical and Product roadmap. You will help educate internal stakeholders on how the latest technologies work and contribute key ideas to conversations about how they can be leveraged in the product

What We’re Looking For

• 8+ years of engineering excellence
• A proven track record of architecting, scaling, and maintaining complex, scaled systems
• Past responsibilities involve systems with large numbers of users in environments where quality, security, and reliability are critical
• Polyglot mastery and a proven ability to learn new languages and architectures.

Ability to hit the ground running — someone who is already proficient in our current stack:

• TypeScript, React, and NodeJS
• Rust (ideally), or Go/C++
• Amazon Web Services and Azure (ideally), or equivalent
• CI/CD: GitHub Actions, or equivalent
• Infrastructure-as-code solutions like Terraform, Pulumi or equivalent
• Bachelors degree or higher in Computer Science or other relevant field preferred
