Job summary

Hike Medical in San Francisco is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to set the technical direction across our clinical software, AI agents, and manufacturing platforms. You will own architecture decisions, scale systems, and contribute substantial code while guiding a team of engineers.

We expect 8+ years in production systems, deep TS/Node.js experience (NestJS, Prisma, PostgreSQL on AWS), and a product-minded, collaborative mindset. In-office role at Rincon Hill with high ownership and impact.

THE ROLE

As a Staff Software Engineer, you will set the technical direction for Hike’s platform across our clinical software, AI agents, and manufacturing. You will own the hardest problems that cut across products, make architecture decisions that hold up as we scale, and raise the bar for every engineer around you. This is a builder role first: you will still write a lot of code.

What we look for

• 8+ years building production systems, with a track record of leading large technical efforts end to end.
• Our core platform is TypeScript and Node.js, with NestJS APIs and PostgreSQL through Prisma, running on AWS.
• Deep experience in backend architecture, distributed systems, and data modeling.
• Fluency with modern cloud and tooling. Experience putting AI into production is a plus, not a requirement.
• Product‑minded: you think about how your work affects real users.
• A strong communicator who challenges assumptions and collaborates across engineering, AI, and product.
