Job summary

Reddit is seeking a Staff Site Reliability Engineer to lead reliability initiatives for critical user facing systems at internet scale. You will partner with product and infra teams to improve availability, latency, and operational excellence across APIs, content delivery, feeds, and real-time systems.

The role demands deep expertise in distributed systems, cloud native architectures, and strong programming in Go or Python, with emphasis on SLOs, incident management, and proactive reliability

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, or related roles operating large scale distributed systems.
• Strong experience supporting high traffic, user facing production environments.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems, networking, Linux systems, cloud native architectures.
• Experience designing highly available systems with strong operational and reliability practices.
• Strong programming skills in Go and Python.
• Strong understanding of observability systems including metrics, logging, tracing, and alerting.
• Experience improving reliability through SLOs, automation, incident management, and performance optimization.

Responsibilities

• Lead Reliability Engineering for User Experience: Drive reliability, scalability, and operational excellence for critical user facing systems and services.
• Architect for Scale: Partner with product and infra teams to design highly available systems under massive global load.
• Reduce Operational Risk: Identify systemic risks and bottlenecks; drive mitigation strategies and improvements.
• Build Automated Solutions: Create tooling to improve deployment safety, incident response, and remediation workflows.
• Incident Management: Lead complex incident responses and drive blameless postmortems.
• Influence Engineering Standards: Define best practices around SRE, SLIs/SLOs, capacity management, and release engineering.
• Mentor and Multiply Impact: Provide technical leadership and raise the operational excellence bar.
