Staff Security Engineer – Detection & Response Lead

Job summary

Confluent seeks an experienced security engineer to join our infrastructure security engineering team focused on Detection and Response. You will build foundational security systems and partner with engineering and compliance teams to keep our cloud environment secure.

You will drive threat detection, incident response, and mentoring while scaling logging pipelines across multi-cloud deployments, delivering high-quality detections and resilient security operations.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in detection and response or similar security engineering role
• Deep knowledge in detection engineering and IR
• Experience instrumenting telemetry and building detections at scale (Kubernetes, containers, multi-cloud)
• Proficient in Python or Golang for tooling and data pipelines
• Experience with logging and security event management solutions (SIEM/SOAR)
• Ability to work with a remote team and drive engineering decisions

Responsibilities

• Architect and maintain scalable cloud-based security monitoring solutions
• Map threat models into high-signal detection strategies
• Triage alerts and drive incidents to closure, with on-call rotation
• Research new threat vectors and align program with threat landscape
• Improve detection rules with metrics and collaboration with engineering
• Collaborate on logging pipelines and secure-by-default visibility
• Contribute to strategy, risk management and prioritization for detection and response
• Provide mentorship and leadership to other security engineers
