Uber is seeking a Staff Security Engineer to safeguard user‑facing products by leveraging AI/ML to detect evolving threats and scale industry‑leading security services. You will own the transition from research to production, drive root cause analysis, and write modular code with Python, Go, or Ruby.

The role requires 8+ years of security experience, strong incident management skills, and a proven ability to set standards for detection and monitoring.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional experience in security engineering, threat detection, or client platform engineering.
• Experience designing, building, and tuning detection systems across log, network, and endpoint telemetry.
• Proven ability to provide concrete technical input into code and systems across multiple teams.
• Experience leading cross‑functional security and privacy projects through all stages.
• Expertise in defining standards for security/privacy, testing, monitoring, and alerting systems.
• Ability to direct incident management as a high‑level escalation point for other engineers.
• Demonstrated skill in making complex engineering and risk tradeoffs with short/long‑term implications.
• Proven track record of technical writing and reviews (ERDs, docs, post‑mortems).

Responsibilities

• Architect and scale security services to neutralize evolving threats across Uber's global ecosystem.
• Navigate high-stakes incident investigations with deep threat analysis and root cause drive across hybrid‑cloud environments.
• Write high‑quality, modular code to automate detection logic using Python, Go, or Ruby.
• Establish standards for detection rules, query optimization, and documentation across the org.
• Collaborate across Network Ops, Incident Response, and Product to improve security posture.
• Experiment with new AI/ML techniques to advance cyber defense capabilities.
