Job description

Location: Dept. of Cell Biology, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, New York

Field: Stem Cell Biology, Hematology, Bioengineering

Job Type: Full-time, Academic Appointment

We are seeking a highly motivated scientist with experience in cell culture to join our translational academic lab focused on large-scale production of lab-grown red blood cells. The position lies at the intersection of stem cell biology, erythropoiesis, and bioprocess engineering, with direct applications in transfusion medicine and cell-based therapeutics.

We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds, including:

  • Biotech-trained scientists or engineers seeking meaningful academic work with potential real-world impact
  • PhD-level postdoctoral candidates interested in a translational research environment
  • Experienced research staff or bioengineers with hands-on expertise in advanced cell culture systems

This is a flexible opportunity. We have funding for multiple roles but will begin by hiring one candidate, with the title and responsibilities tailored to your background.

Required Qualifications:

  • Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture (stem/progenitor cells preferred)
  • Demonstrated independence and strong problem-solving skills

Preferred (but not required):

  • Experience with erythroid cells, hematopoietic or iPSCs differentiation
  • Experience with CRISPR/Cas9-based genetic engineering
  • Experience with bioreactor systems, perfusion culture, or process optimization
  • Experience in biotech, CDMOs, or GMP-adjacent environments
  • Engineering background (e.g., bioengineering, chemical engineering)
