Staff Safety Systems Engineer – Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems
Location: Palmdale, CA or Oklahoma City, OK. Travel: Yes, approximately 10% of the time. Clearance: Must hold an active DoD Secret or Top Secret clearance (with background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled in Continuous Evaluation).
Responsibilities
- Identify, classify, adjudicate, and manage hazards in a closed-loop hazard tracking system.
- Coordinate cross-IPT activities to support hazard and safety requirement adjudication.
- Communicate safety risks to appropriate levels and stakeholders.
- Maintain awareness of system design and functions.
- Prepare and present System Safety Reports, Preliminary Design Review (PDR), and Critical Design Review (CDR) packages documenting hazards and associated safety requirements.
- Flow down derived safety requirements to relevant IPTs and deliver CDRL items.
- Acquire design cognizance of aircraft and identify, classify, and document subsystem hazards and critical safety items (CSIs).
- Mentor safety engineers at various experience levels.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university with a minimum of 14 years of engineering experience, ora Master’s Degree with 12 years of experience, or a PhD with 4 years of experience.
- Understanding and experience with a MIL-STD-882 or ARP-4754 safety program.
- Experience interfacing with a military customer or safety counterpart.
- Active DoD Secret or Top Secret clearance (or higher) with a recent background investigation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in software engineering or software safety.
- Active TOP SECRET or higher DoD Security Clearance.
- Participation in System Safety Working Groups (SSWGs) or similar interface meetings such as SSGs, WSESRB, SSSTRP.
- Knowledge of SAE ARP-4761, MIL-STD-882E, Joint Software System Safety Handbook (JSSSEH), DO-178B/C, MIL-HDBK-516C, DO-254, SAE ARP-4754A, and/or AOP-52.
- Experience conducting Preliminary Hazard List (PHL), Preliminary Hazard Assessment (PHA), Functional Hazard Assessment (FHA), Subsystem Hazard Analysis (SSHA), System Hazard Analysis (SHA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Probability of Loss of Aircraft (FOO), Operating & Support Hazard Analysis (O&SHA), or the ARP-4754/4761 equivalents.
Salary: $144,900.00 – $265,600.00 (depending on scope, responsibilities, and candidate experience).
