Haveron James in Massachusetts seeks a Staff Robotics Software Engineer to lead software across the robotics stack—from algorithms and system architecture to production deployment. This hands-on role demands deep robotics experience and ownership of complex, cross-disciplinary problems that move from development into real-world operation.
You'll influence architecture, mentoring engineers and raising engineering standards while collaborating with teams across software and hardware to deliver

Build the software that makes advanced robotics work in the real world.
We're partnering with an ambitious robotics technology company developing intelligent robotic systems for demanding real-world environments.
They're looking for a Staff Robotics Software Engineer to take a leading technical role across the software stack, from robotics algorithms and system architecture through to production deployment.
This is not a role for someone who wants to own one small component of a larger system.
It's an opportunity for an experienced engineer to tackle some of the hardest problems in robotics, influence architecture and technical direction, and see their work move from development into real-world operation.
As a Staff Engineer, you'll have significant autonomy and technical ownership.
You’ll work alongside experienced engineers across robotics, software and hardware, helping solve problems where conventional approaches aren’t enough.
The exact problems will change. The expectation is that you'll be someone who can identify the important problem, understand it deeply, and drive the solution from idea through to production.
You’ll be expected to operate beyond your individual area of expertise.
That means influencing architecture, raising engineering standards, mentoring other engineers, and helping the team make good technical decisions when the path forward isn’t obvious.
You’ll have the freedom to move between areas of the stack where your experience can have the greatest impact.
We’re looking for someone who enjoys being the engineer brought into the room when a problem is particularly difficult.
Experience with areas such as robotic manipulation, motion planning, optimisation, perception, computer vision, machine learning, distributed systems, embedded software or robotics infrastructure would be particularly relevant.
You don’t need to have worked across every one of these areas.
We’re more interested in depth, engineering judgement and the ability to tackle unfamiliar problems than ticking every box on a technology list.
This is a hands‑on engineering environment where software ultimately has to work on real machines.
You’ll work closely with engineers from different disciplines and will have visibility from early technical decisions through to deployment and operation.
The team values engineers who are comfortable taking ownership, making decisions and getting close to the underlying technical problem.
If you’re looking for a role where you can have a genuine technical impact rather than simply owning another software component, this is worth a conversation.
