Job summary

Northside Hospital in Atlanta, GA is seeking a dedicated RN Lactation Consultant to support breastfeeding education and management across the care team.

The role requires an accredited nursing degree, GA RN licensure, and a minimum of two years post-orientation RN experience, plus BLS. Preferred candidates have BSN and lactation certification, with strong collaboration and patient education skills.

Qualifications

• Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program and licensed RN in Georgia.
• Minimum of two (2) years of full-time RN experience post-orientation or post-residency training.
• BLS certification required; other CPR certifications may be unit specific.
• BSN preferred; National Certification in Clinical Specialty preferred; lactation experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Implements standards of care, policies and procedures for breastfeeding management.
• Assists in providing ongoing in-serviced education for neonatal, obstetric, and pediatric staff to enhance professional development of nursing staff and facilitate lactation management.
• Assists in evaluating teaching materials and methods used for antepartum and postpartum breastfeeding teaching.
• Provides telephone counseling to breastfeeding mothers in the community.
• Collaborates with physicians, nurses and families to promote successful lactation.
• Evaluates and assists with use of breastfeeding aids and equipment.
• Assists in designing individualized patient teaching care plans to promote consistent lactation management.
• Keeps Lactation Coordinator informed of administrative and clinical matters relevant to lactation services.
• Demonstrates knowledge of basic breastfeeding techniques and management of common breastfeeding problems.
• Conforms to safety practices per hospital policies and reports any equipment issues.

Serves as a resource for patients and health care providers. Responsible for assisting in patient/staff education and support in all aspects of lactation management while working towards successful completion of International Board Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) examination

3. 3. Assists in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating teaching materials and methods used for antepartum and postpartum breastfeeding teaching, in a one on one consultation or class context.
4. 4. Provides telephone counseling to breastfeeding mothers in the community.
5. 5. Collaborates with physicians, nurses and families to establish and maintain a team approach to promote successful lactation.
6. 6. Evaluates, maintains, and assists with the use of appropriate breastfeeding aids and equipment.
7. 7. Assists in the design and implementation of individualized patient teaching care plans to promote consistent patient care in lactation management.
8. 8. Keeps Lactation Coordinator informed of administrative and clinical matters pertinent to successful breastfeeding management and lactation consultant services.
9. 9. Demonstrates knowledge and skill in basic breastfeeding techniques and the management of uncomplicated breastfeeding problems.
10. 10. Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury accident to Manager.

REQUIRED:

1. Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and licensed as a RN in the State of Georgia in good standing without limitations.

1. Minimum of two (2) years of full-time experience as a RN post-orientation or post-residency training.
2. Certified in American Heart Association's Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS).
3. Other REQUIRED cardiopulmonary resuscitation certifications (ACLS, NRP, PALS, etc.) are unit specific. Please refer to the specific clinical unit.
