Job summary

SWCA Environmental Consultants seeks a Staff-level Restoration Engineer to drive ecological restoration and water-resource design across the Great Lakes and the U.S. The role emphasizes stream and wetland design, living shorelines, and field data collection, with travel ~20% for site assessments and client meetings.

The ideal candidate has experience in hydraulics, hydrology, geomorphology and is proficient with AutoCAD Civil 3D. Hybrid or remote work options are available from Lombard, IL.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering in a relevant field.
• 1 year of ecosystem restoration design experience.
• Knowledge of erosion and sediment control, stormwater management, and civil site design principles.
• Experience with hydraulic and hydrologic modeling and analysis software.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Support development of engineering designs for restoration projects including stream and wetland design and living shorelines.
• Conduct field investigations to support restoration projects and verify compliance with plans and regulatory requirements.
• Prepare technical reports summarizing findings from inspections, analyses, and fieldwork.
• Assist in permitting and regulatory approvals by preparing required documentation.
• Perform construction oversight to monitor contractors and ensure adherence to specifications.
