Job summary

Turing seeks exceptional Staff Research Scientists to develop new benchmarks, data-generation methods, and evaluation frameworks for frontier AI systems. You will identify important gaps, design rigorous research programs, and drive projects from hypothesis to publication.

The role focuses on frontier STEM evaluation, synthetic data, and agentic science, with broad latitude to propose new programs. Must be highly technical, with strong Python skills and a track record of rigorous research.

Qualifications

• PhD or equivalent research experience in machine learning, computer science, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, engineering, statistics, or another highly technical field.
• Demonstrated ability to formulate and execute original research.
• Strong understanding of modern LLMs and frontier AI research landscape.
• Excellent experimental design, quantitative reasoning, and scientific judgment.
• Excellent technical writing and communication.

Responsibilities

• Frontier benchmarks and evaluation: identify high-impact gaps, design novel benchmarks, develop evaluations for emerging model capabilities, and create robust validation methods.
• Synthetic data and post-training: generate high-quality synthetic STEM data and study effects on downstream performance.
• Hallucination, reliability, and verification: study epistemic uncertainty and develop methods to improve factual accuracy and verification.
• Agentic science: research AI systems for extended scientific work, including literature search, coding, simulation, and iterative reasoning.
• New research directions: propose and pursue additional programs in AI evaluation, data generation, and emerging capabilities.
