About the Role

Join the HJF Team! HJF is seeking a Staff Research Nurse who coordinates the activities associated with treating patients for clinical trials. Assures accurate documentation is maintained, and all governing regulations are in compliance. This position is the first of two Research Nurse levels.

This position will be in support of Murtha Cancer Center Research Program (MCCRP) and Center for Prostate Disease Research (CPDR), USU Walter Reed Surgery.

The CPDR is an interdisciplinary translational cancer research program of the USU Department of Surgery, the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC), and the Murtha Cancer Center Research Program (MCCRP). CPDR is a Department of Defense designated research and clinical care center established by the US Congress in 1991 to care for military service members and their families diagnosed with prostate cancer and prostate-related disease. The mission of the CPDR is to conduct state-of-the-art clinical, epidemiologic, and biomedical translational research with an emphasis on precision medicine to enhance the readiness of active-duty personnel in conjunction with the continuum of medical care for military retirees and beneficiaries. The CPDR also enriches the training of the next generation of physicians/scientists who directly benefit the quality, outcomes, and stability of the military health care delivery system.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. Responsibilities

• Interview patients for clinical trials and collect and analyze data to validate eligibility and patient commitment.
• Educate patients about the clinical trial, their roles in the protocols, and any other vital information.
• Provide patients with documentation validating their study participation as needed.
• Act as a research case manager for the patients.
• Serve as a resource for the patients.
• Conduct counseling sessions for patients and inform them of their rights and responsibilities.
• Obtain pre-screening medical documents by communicating with appropriate sources.
• Act as a liaison between patients and physicians and as a resource to the patient and patient’s family.
• Collect data appropriate to the research protocol; document in medical record/research record and on case report forms.
• Assist in administering appropriate drugs/devices/infusions to patients as specified in protocols.
• May be required to draw blood and obtain other specimens as specified in protocols.
• Evaluate patient status and appropriately elevate significant findings to the physician.
• Conduct patient follow-up as required.
• May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor, including attendance of and participation in required training for the role.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required.
• Minimum of 3-5 years experience required.

Licenses and Certifications

• Licensed Registered Nurse in Maryland required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of complex nursing procedures.
• Knowledge of federal and local regulations and policies pertinent to research involving human subjects.
• Excellent interpersonal and computer skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively and to work with individuals of all levels.
• Hospital case management experience preferred.
• May require U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a T3 Secret Clearance.

Physical Capabilities

• Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.

Work Environment

• This position will take place primarily in a clinic setting.

Compensation and Benefits

• The annual salary range for this position is $77,600-$103,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
