Job summary

The University of California - Los Angeles Health in the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine is seeking a full-time Research Support Assistant (SRA) in the Department of Neurosurgery. Under the supervision of Dr.

Mayumi Prins and Dr. Neil Harris, Principal Investigators, the SRA will manage a multi-lab team and maintain records and workspace while implementing standard laboratory protocols including immunohistology and protein/RNA analyses.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Neuroscience or equivalent coursework and experience.
  • Professional research or analytical experience.
  • Ability to exercise sensitivity, empathy and professionalism with patients and staff.
  • Knowledge of neurophysiology, cognitive neuroscience and psychology.
  • Willing to work flexible hours including nights/weekends for data collection.
  • Ability to manage multiple research experiments independently.
  • Proficient with common software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access).

Job description

Description

This will be a full-time 100% position in the Department of Neurosurgery in the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine. Under the supervision of Dr. Mayumi Prins and Dr Neil Harris, both are Principal Investigators in the Department of Neurosurgery at UCLA.


This SRA will be responsible maintaining a multi-Pl lab including administration, records and workspace, as well as standard laboratory protocols including immuno-histology as well as basic protein and RNA analysis. The applicant will also be expected to work independently after training on Pl-led research including: rodent surgeries, studies utilizing radioisotopes, single cell RNA sequencing, brain tissue sectioning, epifluroescent and lightsheet microscopy, and rodent behavioral tasks. Experience with one or more of these research areas is desirable. The applicant should be comfortable with running at least basic statistical analysis and ideally have R, MaUab or Python coding experience. The applicant will be expected to follow all laboratory safety practices and be able to work collaboratively with others. A minimum of a bachelor\'s degree in biological sciences or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. A master\'s or Ph.D. in neuroscience, cognitive science, computational biology, or a related field is preferred, along with several years of prior laboratory experience.


Hourly salary range: 30.12 - 35.92

  • Ability to use various computer programs for data acquisition and analysis, such as MATLAB and Python, and authoring manuscripts and for preparation of posters and presentations
