Job summary

UC Davis in Turlock, CA is seeking a Staff Research Associate to set up and perform serology/immunology diagnostic tests, prepare slides for histopathology review, and maintain laboratory equipment and records. The role is permanently located in Turlock and requires working with infectious agents in a Biosafety Level 2 facility.

Applicants should have experience with ELISA, agglutination, and immunology methods, and the ability to adapt to new biotechnologies while ensuring safety and compliance

• Experience performing diagnostic immunology methods, including ELISA, agglutination, and hemagglutination-inhibition.
• Experience with infectious diseases in a Biosafety Level 2 facility, including knowledge of biocontainment related to zoonotic diseases.
• Diverse knowledge and skills in fields of veterinary immunology and histology.
• Skills to modify and apply new biotechnologies for practical use in veterinary diagnostics.
• Skills to maintain National Veterinary Service Laboratory certification and CAHFS quality control standards for serologic assays including immunodiffusion, ELISA and agglutination on an annual basis.
• Background in laboratory safety skills to prevent contaminating self and others with biohazardous materials, with ability to follow safe working practices.
• Knowledge of basic immunology and histology sufficient to understand written protocols to perform standard serological techniques.

Staff Research Associate

Salary or Pay Range: $32.79 - $52.75 (budgeted department salary: Step 1, $32.79 /hourly - Step 13, $41.58 /hourly, commensurate with educational background and relevant working experience)

THIS POSITION IS PERMANENTLY LOCATED IN TURLOCK, CA!

Under general supervision, set up and perform routine serology/immunology diagnostic tests, preparing slides for histopathologic review by the pathologists, preparing media, and perform laboratory maintenance.

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

• BS degree in Immunology/Biological Sciences or related field Preferred.
• Experience with methods of disposal and containment of infectious waste.
• 1-2 years' work experience in related field.
• Skills to operate autoclaves, glassware washers, millipore filters, ovens, laminar flow hoods, biosafety cabinets, fume hoods, centrifuges, ELISA readers and washers, auto and manual pipets, incubators, microscopes, calculators, balances, computers, spectrophotometer and pH meters, tissue processors, embedders, and microtome equipment.
• Skills to maintain clean laboratory work areas and laboratory equipment in good working order.
• Skills to maintain neat and accurate written and computerized records. Knowledge of UC purchasing procedures and skills to perform appropriate and cost-effective ordering and use of laboratory and/or office supplies and equipment.
• Skills to adapt to change and to work in other areas as needed.
• Skills to perform literature searches and to organize data for publication.
