Job summary

Form Energy, based in Berkeley, CA, is hiring a Staff Reliability Engineer to improve the reliability and lifetime of iron-air packs and deployed systems. You will join the Systems Reliability team and lead reliability test development for pack-level subsystems.

You will translate product goals into reliability requirements, define validation roadmaps, and design experiments to uncover failure mechanisms while championing safety across the organization.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of industry experience in reliability engineering.
  • Experience creating tests to evaluate electrical/electromechanical systems.
  • Experience testing PCBs and electronic components.
  • Strong communication and collaboration, including with remote teams.

ROLE DESCRIPTION

Form Energy is hiring a Staff Reliability Engineer to improve the reliability and lifetime of our iron‑air packs and deployed systems. This role reports into our Systems Reliability team, in Berkeley CA. As part of our Systems Reliability team, you will lead reliability test development and design for reliability for several of our pack‑level subsystems. WHAT YOU’LL DO:
  • Technical Leadership: Act as the primary authority on Design for Reliability (DfR) for critical electro‑mechanical plant subsystems that support our battery plant, mentoring peers and guiding cross‑functional design failure analyses (DFMEAs)
  • Translate high‑level product goals into rigorous reliability requirements. You will define the roadmap for how we validate component and sub‑system lifetimes.
  • Design and lead complex experiments to uncover failure mechanisms, determine root causes, and establish methods to accelerate failure rates in tests. Tests will focus on electronics control systems such as PCBs, connectors, and bus bars
  • Be a champion for safety
WHAT YOU’LL BRING:
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Reliability Engineering or related field with 7+ years of industry experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing new tests to evaluate performance and/ or reliability of electrical and electromechanical systems
  • Experience with testing of PCBs and other electronic components
  • Familiar with developing accelerated lifetime tests to assess component reliability across a range of operating conditions
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Strong cross‑functional collaboration and communication skills within a group of peers and the broader organization, including remote team members
